Yes Virginia, There is Class Warfare | PlanetPOV

There’s an old saying, “If you don’t know you’re in a war, you’ve already lost.”

Americans seem to know that corporations and the wealthy are accumulating the power and wealth of this nation for themselves . . . and yet, this awareness seems totally disconnected for many Americans from the concept of class warfare. Somehow, through the onslaught of conditioning we’ve been subjected to since childhood, hyping materialism, capitalism, the American Dream and “You too will be a millionaire one day!”, many Americans still seem to stop short of recognizing that they are in the midst of a war that they are losing.

It was the furies of the Arab world, not Afghanistan, that struck America eight years ago today.

The road that led to 9/11 was never a defining concern of President Barack Obama. But he returned to 9/11 as he sought to explain and defend the war in Afghanistan in a speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Phoenix, Ariz., on Aug. 17. “The insurgency in Afghanistan didn’t just happen overnight and we won’t defeat it overnight, but we must never forget: This is not a war of choice; it is a war of necessity. Those who attacked America on 9/11 are plotting to do so again. If left unchecked, the Taliban insurgency will mean an even larger safe haven from which al Qaeda could plot to kill more Americans.”

california’s redwoods and 200 treasures under threat from budget crisis

To my dismay and horror the bureaucracy of California has decided to risk the preservation of America’s natural treasures to balance its fiscal crisis. While every dollar spent on state parks creates more than $2 in revenue for the state of California, Sacramento intends to close more than 200 historic and natural preserves to erode its 24 billion dollar budget deficit. Among those at risk of closure are Humboldt Redwoods, Grizzley Redwoods, Smithe Redwoods, and Richardson Grove,  part of the Redwood National Park consortium which contain the last remnants of the coastal Redwood ecosystem. Already reduced to five percent of its original two-million acre sprawl, the Redwoods and the tallest tree in the world are now on the chopping block of California’s financial restructuring. Take action to prevent these counterproductive measures with longstanding and irreversable consequences.
